Spreading innovation to improve the health of our population, support the health and care workforce, transform NHS services and support economic growth is at the core of Wessex AHSN’s work. We take a broad definition of the term ‘innovation’, whether that be digital, diagnostics, medtech, processes or pathways.
We’ve adopted an evidence based model to support our approach to innovation adoption within Wessex. Our model is shown below:
You can find out more by watching the Approach to Spreading Innovation: webinar.
Alongside our model, we draw upon our extensive networks, capabilities in business case development, real world evaluation and understanding of local priorities to support innovators, innovation adopters and the wider health system to adopt and spread innovation more efficiently.
There are a number of different adoption models in existence – including, for example, the NHS England Spread and Adoption of Innovation and Improvement: A Practical Guide.
Wessex AHSN is the national lead AHSN coordinating the delivery of the Accelerated Access Collaborative’s FeNO testing programme. We have worked with NHS England to develop a case study describing how the approach taken by the FeNO programme team aligns with the Spread and Adoption Practical Guide. You can read the case study here, and watch a video exploring the approach here.
