Academics & researchers
We collaborate closely with academia and the local research system to connect you with health and care services, and the public to inform your research and translate it into real world settings. By working with our regional networks, we can drive change locally and spread it nationally – we can support you navigate every step.
Wessex offers a unique environment for embedding research and driving innovation, thanks to its leading clinical expertise and world-class academic infrastructure.
Health Innovation Wessex brings together over 50 experts across health, care, academia, life sciences, and research. With deep sector knowledge, we’ve built a strong reputation for guiding cutting-edge medical innovations into practice—delivering a 3:1 return on investment and improving health outcomes.
We work in partnership with Wessex Cancer Alliance to accelerate early cancer diagnosis, supporting the NHS goal of diagnosing 75% of cancers at stages 1 and 2 by 2028. Our joint funded role with the NHS Central and South Genomic Medicine Service Alliance positions us at the forefront of cutting edge research and technological advancements to accelerate genomics innovation and healthcare solutions. As a founding member of Wessex Health Partners, we work to strengthen our region's collective ability to tackle health and care system challenges, generate collaborative research, and increase the pace and scale of innovation adoption. Our Director of Insight is also the Implementation Lead for NIHR Wessex ARC. The team supports researchers to address the gaps between their projects that validate innovations and translating this into adoption by the wider health and care system.

“The TWC evaluation has directly supported the development of a Community Transformation Wound Care programme for adoption and spread across the Network. The evaluation has also supported the growing evidence base of the benefits that can be achieved by implementing the NWCSP [National Wound Care Strategy Programme] lower limb recommendations and having a dedicated service.”

“[The evaluation] enabled the ICB to clearly meet our internal deadlines for future commissioning decisions and procurement. For that, we thank you for the extra effort put in. Via the FutureNHS platform, I have also had the opportunity to share the evaluation documentation far and wide across England with other ICB colleagues who requested some help nationaly for evaluations like this one. We will continue to share when requested to help support other areas with their commission and future funding arrangements. ”
