Our structure and
governance

We are led by our senior leadership team, who are responsible for setting the strategic direction and providing overall oversight of our work. This team ensures that all initiatives align with our mission to drive health innovation across the region.

The senior team is accountable to the Health Innovation Wessex Board. The Board is responsible for governance and steers our strategic direction, ensuring we deliver against the objectives licensed by NHS England and commissioned by the government’s Office for Life Sciences. Our approach of close partnership working with our members - and the other elements of the health and care system - is underpinned by mutual Board representation. You can view our Board members here.

Our governance framework is designed to be inclusive and collaborative, reflecting the diverse range of stakeholders involved in health innovation. At every level of decision-making, we engage a wide variety of partners, ensuring that all voices are heard and valued.

These include:

  • Academic institutions: We work closely with leading universities, facilitating research partnerships and fostering innovation through academic expertise.
  • NHS trusts and community care organisations: Our governance involves key NHS Trusts and community care organisations, ensuring that healthcare delivery and patient care remain at the forefront of our activities.
  • Commissioners and policy makers: We collaborate with commissioners and policymakers to ensure that the innovations we support align with regional and national healthcare priorities.
  • Patient groups and advocacy organisations: Patient-centered care is at the heart of our work. We actively involve patient groups to ensure that the innovations we promote are driven by the needs and experiences of those they affect most.
  • Industry partners: We engage with industry stakeholders to promote the adoption of innovative solutions and to facilitate the commercialisation of new healthcare technologies.
  • Government agencies: Our governance structure includes collaboration with government bodies to align our efforts with broader health policy and funding initiatives.

Our approach to governance ensures transparency, accountability, and strategic alignment with the needs of our partners and the healthcare system. We foster a culture of partnership where each stakeholder plays an active role in decision-making, allowing for the successful implementation of health innovations that are both effective and sustainable.
