Patient safety

As one of 15 regional collaboratives in England, Wessex Patient Safety Collaborative (PSC) improves patient safety and reduces avoidable patient harm by working with staff and patients to deliver the objectives set out in the NHS Patient Safety Strategy.

The strategy sets out how the NHS will support staff and providers to share safety insight and empower people, patients and staff with the skills, confidence and mechanisms to improve safety. Getting this right could save almost 1,000 extra lives and £100 million in care costs each year.

The strategy has evolving over time to ensure it supports the NHS to meet its current challenges and priorities, remains relevant and can impact on the areas where need is greatest.

We work with staff and patients across health and social care pathways in Wessex using Quality Improvement (QI), networking, and scale up methods, focused on the priority improvement areas:

  • Maternity and Neonatal
  • Medicine Safety
  • System Safety
  • Managing Deterioration and Martha's Rule.
