Early cancer diagnosis

Since 2020, Health Innovation Wessex has formally collaborated with Wessex Cancer Alliance to support the spread and adoption of innovations for earlier diagnosis, in line with the NHS Long Term Plan aim of diagnosing 75% of cancers at stage 1 and 2 by 2028. 

To achieve this, we co-fund a programme manager with Wessex Cancer Alliance to accelerate the uptake of innovations leading to earlier cancer diagnosis, enabling teams by: 

• building links with local, regional and national teams involved in the diagnosis of cancer and the implementation of innovations
• developing relationships with cancer Clinical Advisory Groups across Wessex to understand innovation need
• exploring funding opportunities for innovation pilots, and sharing learning from innovation projects to enable the spread of impactful innovations
• undertaking cancer innovation horizon scans and actively identifying innovations that may contribute to earlier diagnosis.
