Project
Increasing uptake of the faecal immunochemical test (FIT) was a Dorset Integrated Care System project for the Innovation for Healthcare Inequalities Programme (InHIP).
Launched under the national Healthcare Inequalities Programme (InHIP), this project was developed and delivered with partners from Dorset ICB, Wessex Cancer Alliance and C the Signs.
The aim of the project was to take an innovative approach to improve uptake of the NICE approved FIT, particularly amongst coastal communities who can experience some of the highest levels of health inequality.
To achieve this, and working with members from Dorset ICB, Health Innovation Wessex supported the delivery of four community-based focus groups and a Dorset-wide survey to understand and increase public awareness, usage and completion rates of FIT kits.
Led by Dorset ICB, C the Signs was also deployed to all primary care networks in Dorset to support healthcare professionals to spot the earliest signs, symptoms, and risk factors for colorectal cancer and help them to track when a FIT was completed and help ensure positive results are acted on as soon as possible.
The Insight team at Health Innovation Wessex was commissioned to undertake an evaluation of this project, the results of which showed:
