Project
CYTOPRIME2 was a multi-site project, funded by the national Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) cancer open call in 2022 to deliver real-world pilots of EndoSign, a capsule sponge test developed by Cyted Health.
Our impact
26
new cases of Barrett's Oesophagus cancer detected
9
cases of hiatus hernia identified
2
cancers detected
The pilot was delivered in sites across three cancer alliances. Through our jointly funded cancer innovation programme in Wessex, we worked with teams across Dorset to deliver community and primary care-based capsule sponge clinics to generate evidence on the impact this test could have by offering it at venues closer to home, to communities who are at risk of oesophageal cancer.
This project involved teams from University Hospitals Dorset (UHD), The Adams Practice, Shore Medical and Wareham Surgery to implement six clinics; five based in primary care and one which moved the hospital-based capsule sponge clinic into a community diagnostic centre setting. The test was offered to people known to UHD with confirmed Barrett’s oesophagus and people registered with one of the GP practices involved who had displayed symptoms of suspected Barrett’s oesophagus.
