Overview
This independent evaluation explored the pilot Oncology Monitoring at Home (OM@H) service delivered in Dorset between 2023 and 2024. Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust hosted the service and the clinical teams at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust delivered the care to the patients. Using a bespoke digital platform, the OM@H service enabled patients undergoing active cancer treatment to report their vital signs and symptoms remotely from the comfort of their own home.
Conducted as part of the Health Innovation Wessex Real World Evaluation Programme 2024, the evaluation aimed to review the service and build a case for its sustainable development. The report presents early findings on how OM@H may support earlier recognition of health deterioration, reduce emergency department visits and hospital admissions, and offer patients a greater sense of reassurance and control. It also highlights key implementation challenges and considerations for future service development.
The evaluation is based on a mixed-methods approach, combining patient and staff interviews with case-matched service utilisation data. While the findings are exploratory, they offer valuable insights into how remote monitoring could be integrated into oncology care pathways.
