Project
Health innovation networks (HINs) across the South East and South West are working collaboratively with partners to support the ambitions of the government’s Renewed Women’s Health Strategy for England (2026). The strategy provides an important framework for improving women’s health outcomes and experiences and addressing persistent inequalities across the health and care system. Delivering its ambitions requires collaboration across organisational, professional, and geographical boundaries, with partners working collectively to translate strategic priorities into action.
Through regional Women’s Health workshops, the HINs have brought together diverse perspectives from across health and care, using their collective capabilities as conveners, connectors and facilitators of innovation to support shared priorities and strengthen collaboration across the regions. Health Innovation Wessex was well-placed to support this work, drawing on learning and expertise from the recent implementation of innovations to support women’s health in Dorset.
Impact from workshops

attendees across the South East and South West regions
74%
of post-event survey respondents felt the workshop enabled them to identify women’s health priorities and plans to achieve them, with some other respondents suggesting that system restructuring had presented challenges in identifying the most appropriate roles to contribute to the plans
"So many amazing women in the room. I’m buzzing, inspired and more informed. I hope I can support any implementation via my connections in the Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprise Sector."
South East workshop attendee
Health Innovation Wessex has supported a Women’s Health workshop in the South West region alongside Health Innovation South West and Health Innovation West of England, and in the South East alongside Health Innovation Oxford & Thames Valley and Health Innovation Kent Surrey Sussex.
These regional workshops brought together colleagues from integrated care boards, primary and secondary care, public health, the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector, academia, and other partners. The breadth of participation enabled partners to share different perspectives, identify common priorities and explore how innovation, collaboration and shared learning could support delivery of the Renewed Women’s Health Strategy.
The workshops demonstrated the collective value of the HINs as trusted conveners and collaborators. Their established relationships across health and care, combined with expertise in innovation, improvement, evaluation, spread and adoption, enable the Health Innovation Network to connect partners, share learning and support the translation of evidence and innovation into practice.
The workshops have strengthened relationships across the regions, increased shared understanding and generated ideas and priorities for further development.
Through continued collaboration, Health Innovation Wessex is supporting partners within Wessex to maintain momentum and develop coordinated approaches that contribute to more equitable, effective and responsive healthcare for women.
