Wessex AHSN shortlisted for prestigious national HSJ Rising Star Awards

Wessex AHSN programme manager Rachel Dominey and clinical lead Dr Andy Whittamore are both in the running to win this year’s Rising Star Award at tomorrow’s HSJ Awards; a celebration of the healthcare leaders of the future. 

Rachel, who manages the Respiratory Quality Improvement Programme, has been nominated for her innovative leadership of specialised services redesign working with teams based at Portsmouth Hospitals Trust and University Hospital Southampton (Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC) Wessex). Wessex AHSN’s respiratory team is advised by GP Dr Andy Whittamore. Andy has also been shortlisted in the Rising Star category for his role in improving the respiratory health of his patients at Portsdown Group Practice in Hampshire and his clinical leadership for national organisations including Asthma UK and the British Lung Foundation.

The HSJ Rising Star Awards give national recognition to those delivering excellent patient care now and who are making innovative and often brave decisions to shape their vision of excellent care for the future. Shortlisted nominees must enter a demanding selection process of presentations and interviews before an expert panel of judges, comprised of influential figures from the health sector. Project impact, the extent to which conventional approaches are challenged, and support given to younger leaders to progress within healthcare are all factors considered by the panel.
