Independent evaluation of the needs of Long COVID service users in HIOW ICS

Category: Covid-19, Rapid Insight, Evaluation Frameworks

Date: 2022

HIOW ICS have a growing caseload of people living with Long COVID. Wessex AHSN was approached to undertake a rapid evaluation of the needs and preferences of people living with Long COVID, identify sources of non-NHS support, and support the development of HIOW ICS Long COVID services. This study involved a service-wide survey and targeted interviews and focus groups with adults living with Long COVID, all conducted between September and November 2021. This evaluation highlighted the need for more visible support, shorter waiting times between referral and assessment, making the most of assessment delays by providing educational resources, the desire for face-to-face or online support groups – both peer-led or clinician-led – to alleviate considerable anxiety about a wide range of reported symptoms. Findings from this evaluation provide the ICS with some key insights to inform the planning of services for people with long COVID.
