The UK is home to many great innovators and products which can improve patient outcomes, generate savings and improve Value for Money (VFM) for the NHS, economic growth and high tech jobs. We work closely with clinical or commercial innovators and SMEs to help realise these opportunities simultaneously. Regardless of background, all innovators share a passion for addressing the challenges faced in our healthcare environment and improving the way things are done.

Innovation can come in many forms from new technologies to new ways of working. The United Kingdom is a richly diverse landscape bringing together people with different backgrounds, outlooks and ideas to meet challenges in our healthcare system.

The Industry and Innovation team and Wessex AHSN as a whole work with innovators at any stage of their journey. From early ideas jotted on the back of an envelope through to licensed products with existing NHS sales, we have a range of services and offerings to innovators no matter what stage they are on in their journey. Aligning to the Innovation Pathway, we have a track record of supporting innovators to help patients faster.

Our support is tailored to what each innovator needs and we work with our partners to try to:

Understand the needs of the wider NHS system and what innovations might be successfully adopted
Make connections between people and organisations matching innovators to area of need
Share best practice across healthcare organisations
Identify locations and people to participate in trials, pilots and evaluations
Work with our colleagues across the other 14 AHSNs in England for regional projects

Through support from our local members (NHS England and the Office for Life Sciences) we are able to offer our support without charge. Our aim is to speed the rate at which patients get better treatment, to help the NHS get better VFM and to grow the UK health sector economy.
