NIHR Evidence publishes new Collection on early detection of cancer

A new collection of evidence released by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) demonstrates ways teams are looking at improving early diagnosis of cancer - including recognising patients who are at risk of poorer outcomes and making existing screening programmes even better. 

Catching cancer earlier is one of the most effective ways to improve survival. It means patients can receive treatment sooner, making it more likely the cancer can be cured. This Collection explores recent NIHR-supported research into the early detection of cancer. Some studies address the needs of specific groups, others look at new approaches to screening. The Collection brings together messages from research that has been highlighted in accessible summaries of evidence - NIHR Alerts - over the past year. 

NIHR Evidence publishes high quality, user-friendly research evidence that has the potential to inform improvements in health and social care policy and practice. The Collections bring together recent NIHR-funded research on a topic or theme, with commentary from those who might be affected by the research. Recent Collections include:
