Health Innovation Wessex (HIW) has worked in partnership with our local health and social care system since the Health Innovation Network (formerly known as Academic Health Science Network) was established 10 years ago.
During 2023, Health Innovation Wessex started to work in a new innovative way with the local systems. We formed delivery teams to provide dedicated support to both Dorset and Hampshire & Isle of Wight (HIOW) Integrated Care Boards (ICB). With our ICB colleagues, we co-developed a delivery plan to ensure HIWs activities align and contributed to the delivery of the ICB’s Joint Forward Plan. This is an annual activity to ensure the delivery plans remain aligned to the priorities and we can add value and impact to the system.
During 2024/25, our locality work focusses on the following:
Our focus will be on the identification and adoption of suitable innovation to improve outcomes. We aim to create the right conditions for systematic and sustainable adoption at scale, as we recognise that this is a challenge the system currently faces. This will also support the workforce with capacity and capability to adopt impactful innovation.
All of our local plans have been co-developed and aligned with the strategic aims and priorities for the Dorset and HIOW systems. Our cross-cutting themes further weave these priorities together: : reducing health inequalities; net zero; digital; workforce; equality, diversity, and inclusivity; patient safety. These compliment our national and regional commissions and will support the ongoing development of a high-functioning innovation adoption ecosystem.
