Meeting the need for improved prevention and management across Wessex - the NHS Long Term Plan states that the biggest area where the NHS can save lives over the next 10 years is in reducing the incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and includes an ambition to prevent 150,000 strokes, heart attacks and cases of dementia over the same period. CVD causes one death every three minutes in the UK, with those in the most deprived areas four times more likely to die. For the first time in 50 years, deaths from premature cardiovascular disease are on the rise. CVD is the single biggest area where the health service can save lives over the next 10 years through targeted approaches to reduce the widening of health inequalities.
To address this the Health Innovation Network is focusing on Lipids Optimisation, tackling Familial Hypercholesterolaemia and Blood Pressure Optimisation. You can read more about this work using the links below.
At Health Innovation Wessex we are working closely with our system partners to understand where support is needed.
Work underway includes a series of Education events/webinars being held in association with our partner HINs in the South East - Kent Surrey Sussex and Oxford.
You can review a recording of the first webinar (held on 5 May) by following this link; SE Collab CVD Webinar and the presentation on this link; SE Collab CVD Webinar presentation
We are also in the very fortunate position of having Clinical Advisors in Lipid Management.
