After Ruby: Models of Care (Part Nine)

One needs to acknowledge the changes that the implementation of telehealth and telecare will have on the care pathway and address this issue with staff. Wellness will bring new technology into the market and people are using devices in that arena. The use of telehealth using devices will build on this.

It is important to share the good news stories about deploying telehealth.

After Ruby: Resourcing and Procurement (Part Ten)

The buying solutions and UK government procurement system is described. Managed service models are covered and some of the challenges about implementing these models. There are confounding factors that can prevent these happening in practice today.

Dr Paul Rice debates the issues around organisations procuring solutions that are robust and will last into the future as the technology gallops ahead.

After Ruby: Benefits Realisation and Evaluation (Part Eleven)

Benefits realisation and evaluation: David Barrett describes different types of evidence and benefits/costs of these.

After Ruby: Infrastructure and Technology (Part Twelve)

This session is presented by Dr Paul Rice, who discusses infrastructure and technology considerations in telehealth and telecare.

Patients’ Views of Technology

This film is a co-production between the Wessex HIEC and Age UK. It highlights the views of two people who have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and also the spouse of one of the patients.

They have been using the Docobo Doc@Home system to help manage their care and this film explores their views on using that technology.

Future Impact: Sue Faulds

Sue Faulds, who leads the undergraduate nurse training course at the University of Southampton, describes what nurses need to learn in order to become competent and functioning staff in MDTs.

She worries about an over reliance on technology (while confessing her personal love of it!) to the point where the obvious is missed. Knowledge and attitudes to gain competence need to be built into training programmes for staff in training. Telehealth and telecare will be part of the future nurse’s armoury and how they are applied is key to their success.

The session concludes with a summary of the points made during the group discussions.
