This video introduces the Solent Project, run at the Southern Health NHS Foundation Trusts’ Becton Centre, in 2010 – 2011.
This was an innovative project established to enhance the therapeutic value of the ward and patient experience. Innovation was achieved through the implementation of a new model of dementia care, drawing on principles of a ‘recovery model’ approach used extensively with younger people with mental health problems. The outcomes of the project included a 50% reduction on drug spend, 56% reduction in falls, 54% reduction of violent incidents, reduction in the need for some medical time on the ward (generating a saving) and improved patient and staff satisfaction.
