Wessex HIEC Partnership Telehealth and Telecare Conference Part 1: June 2011

The promotion of telehealth and telecare was highlighted at the Wessex wide conference held in June 2011.

The conference described work that is being done locally to improve outcomes for patients and ways to reduce costs across the health system through prevention of acute hospital admissions. Over 70 people from across the region attended this conference and it gave the Wessex HIEC a mandate for work going forwards.

Speakers included: Ros Tolcher, CEO of the Solent NHS Trust, who described the work being done in her trust and the impact this is having on working practices for her staff and on the issues that have been addressed to embed this way of working.

Mike Clark, an independent consultant with the Kings Fund shared his vision of telecare and telehealth developments in England and the evolving landscape of commissioning through clinical commissioning groups.

Mark Fisher, an independent consultant on telecare working on the south coast, described the work he has done in supporting the implementation of telecare in local authorities, and the learning that health trusts can gain from this.
