The HIP course is designed to help accelerate the progress of innovations into the NHS. Helping innovators to get their product/pathway market ready sooner, so they’re more attractive to NHS customers and therefore more likely to be adopted into widespread use.
We are looking for innovators from across the UK who have a health innovation that have a minimal viable product and has completed a level of proof-of-concept this could include pilot scale studies. Applicants can include clinicians, academics, SMEs, innovators and entrepreneurs.
This fully funded, free to attend, four-day course is designed to help support you, the innovator, in the development of your health innovation/product. We will be focusing on how to navigate the complex landscape that is the NHS and healthcare in the UK, including looking at how to find the right route to market that works for your innovation. You will learn knowledge and skills to help you to understand and explain the value of your proposition to NHS and health and social care stakeholders.
Speakers from Health Innovation Wessex (HIW) will be joined by experts from specialisms across the health innovation landscape including regulation, commercialisation, research and funding. There will also be members of the local NHS integrated care board (ICB) to provide insights, plus presenters who have lived experience of successful health innovation implementation and commercialisation. This panel of speakers, with a wealth of experience between them, will be sharing their knowledge and expertise from years of experience working in the NHS, health innovation and project management arenas, to help guide you and provide key resources that can support your journey from idea to commercialisation.
Throughout the course HIW staff will provide mentorship and 1-1 support to applicants, which can continue after the programme. To hear how HIW can support innovators please check our webpage.

Delegates will:
The four-day course will run over three weeks, the first week will consist of two days back-to-back with a week gap before another two consecutive days the following week – please check the dates to ensure you are available for all four days to guarantee you are able to optimise the opportunity. Those unable to attend the four days will not be successful in their application. Applicants are expected to attend all sessions.
The course will consist of direct teaching sessions, self-directed learning, collaborative workshops, networking opportunities will culminate with the delegates completing a market access presentation to a guest panel of members from the health innovation sphere, amalgamating all they have learnt throughout the course.
The most successful pitch be awarded on the final day of the course following the presentations.
This course will provide you with skills, knowledge and resources to help you navigate your health innovation journey.
Applicants will be provided with resources throughout the course to support their innovation development, including the development of a value proposition template.
The selection process starts Monday 23 September 2024 - Places are limited. Applications received after this date may not be considered if capacity has been reached.
Applications will be reviewed by a team from HIW, successful applicants will be contacted as soon as possible. There will be a virtual 1-hour launch webinar for applicants to meet the HIW team and fellow delegates prior to the start of the course in addition to access to resources and further information.
Unsuccessful applications will receive feedback and the offer of alternative support if appropriate.
