The Innovation Exchange is an Health Innovation Network-wide coordinated approach to identify, select and support the adoption of innovations that improve our economy and patients’ lives. Through this approach, we aim to deliver the following:
1. Identify needs and communicate demands
2. Support, advice and signposting
3. Broker real world validation
4. Support spread and adoption
Identify needs and communicate demands
We support our NHS Partners and Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) colleagues to identify proven solutions to existing challenges.
Support, advice and signposting
Innovator support is provided by all health innovation networks. The Innovation Pathway sets out the range of service offered. There is a consistent and coordinated offer to innovators wherever they are identified in the system.
Broker real world validation
Real world validation is informed by regional and local need and seeks to provide the information and evidence needed to enable adoption of the innovation in a variety of settings.
Support spread and adoption
The Innovation Exchange supports the adoption of innovations identified by the Accelerated Access Collaborative. It also identifies and supports the adoption of innovations on a regional and cross-regional basis.
Funded by the government’s Office for Life Sciences, the Innovation Exchange identifies innovations for the Accelerated Access Collaborative and for local adoption. The Accelerated Access Collaborative is a national partnership of organisations including NHS England, Department of Health and Social Care, Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy, NICE, NHS Improvement and the health innovation networks.
The Innovation Exchange in Wessex
In Wessex, we work locally and nationally with other health innovation networks to make sure great products, innovations and ideas meet NHS needs. Check out our Guide to Medical Technologies.
We proactively seek and develop opportunities to showcase innovators. For example at the national NHS ConfedExpo or at our own annual events. We have a great track record of getting companies air-time, and through that, introductions and progress. Companies chosen to present will ordinarily have met us first through our Health Innovation Surgeries.
"Wessex AHSN worked hard to get 'my mhealth' to the NHS Expo conference in Manchester, and then worked hard to bring people to the stand and help us network. As a direct result, we have had not only potential new customers but had a new order, which in turn will allow these patients access to their disease specific self management programme 24 hours a day, reducing the burden on the NHS - which is what we’re all working towards!" - Ian Thompson, Strategic Director, 'my mhealth'.
