Annual Review showcases increasing impact of Wessex AHSN

Wessex Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) has released its annual review for the year of 2015-16, which showcases impact across a wide range of quality improvement and wealth generating programmes for the past year (2015-16).

This impact includes:

• Over 1,000 hours of support to the health and life science industry, including 300 hours of 1:1 industry mentoring; and £3.9m of inward investment by the Wessex Life Science Cluster
  
  
• Improving access to psychosis care: 66% of people now assessed within seven days, 96% within a fortnight 
  
  
• Supporting 120 Wessex GP practices to become dementia friendly; 24 already full accredited 
  
  
• Improved early diagnosis of respiratory disease for over 1,000 patients and improve the quality of life for 3,000 patients 
  
  
• Screening 900 older people for malnutrition, and training over 250 health and social care professionals
  
  
•  Increasing harm from alcohol screening from 2.5% to 42%
  
  
• Contributing to a 67% increase in prescribing anticoagulants to treat Atrial Fibrillation   
  
  
• £30K awarded to 13 patient safety projects and the development of a Wessex Community of Safety and Improvement Practice (CSIP) which now has 270 members
