Applications are invited for NIHR Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) proposals which are related to the day-to-day practice of health service staff and are concerned with having an impact on the health or well-being of patients and users of the NHS on a wide range of issues. The programme supports applications which are regionally derived and applications which have emerged from interaction with patients and the public, which relate to patient and service user experience, and which have been drawn up in association with a relevant group of service users.

The Health Technology Assessment Programme
The Health Technology Assessment Programme is accepting calls to their researcher-led workstream. The deadline for applications is 1pm, 4 December 2015.
For this round they are particularly interested in receiving proposals for diagnostic accuracy and utility studies, to evaluate tests and investigations designed to improve the diagnosis and recognition of suspected child maltreatment.

UK Rapid Response Team
A new, open competition to fund a UK Rapid Response Team (RRT) has been launched. This will be delivered collaboratively by an academic institution and Public Health England (PHE).
The Ebola response has highlighted the need for the international community to develop a mechanism that can support countries in investigating and responding to disease outbreaks that pose a global threat before they have the chance of becoming a global health emergency. In response to this, at the G7 Summer 2015, the Prime Minister announced plans to develop a Rapid Response Team (RRT) in the UK that can respond to invitations to investigate possible or known disease outbreaks in low and middle income countries. This will be a high profile team and part of the UK’s front line in improving global health security.
The project will be supported by UK Official Development Assistance (ODA) budget and thus will focus on the list of ODA eligible countries. It is expected that funding of £20M will be made available over 5 years.
An information session for potential academic applicants will be held on 19 November 2015, at Department of Health, London.
The closing date for submission of applications by academic institutions in the United Kingdom interested in being considered for the UK Rapid Response Team is 17 December 2015 at 1:00pm.
