Using Normalisation Process Theory [NPT] to understand how GPs have engaged with eConsults.

This 2018 presentation reports on a mixed method evaluation underpinned by the Normalisation Process Theory [NPT] conceptual framework to evaluate the pilot implementation of eConsults in 2 Wessex GP practices. Trends in usage, surveys and semi-structured interviews of GP practice staff and survey of patients showed both benefits and limitations of eConsults. Patients identified more benefits and GPs more limitations and barriers to implementation. Only 40% and 60% of GPs, respectively, wanted their own GP practice to offer eConsults but 90% of patients would recommend eConsults to family and friends.
