Health Innovation Wessex is proud to announce it has been shortlisted as a finalist at the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Patient Safety Awards 2025, in recognition of its outstanding commitment to improving patient safety and driving innovation in healthcare.
The announcement comes after a rigorous judging process by a panel of esteemed healthcare leaders and patient safety experts. Health Innovation Wessex has been recognised in the category ‘Maternity and Midwifery Services Initiative of the Year’ for its project ‘Preterm Optimisation Perinatal Team Coaching in Hampshire and Isle of Wight’.
The project delivered by the Wessex Patient Safety Collaborative (PSC) saw colleagues initiate, develop and deliver a codesigned coaching offer to support clinicians working in Hampshire and Isle of Wight (HIOW) maternity and neonatal teams. These perinatal teams are focused on delivering improved outcomes for premature babies as part of the national Maternity and Neonatal Safety Improvement Programme.

Organised by the Health Service Journal (HSJ), the Patient Safety Awards celebrate the teams and individuals going above and beyond to protect patients from harm, reduce risks, and embed a culture of safety across the healthcare sector.
“I feel incredibly proud to work in the Patient Safety Collaborative at Health Innovation Wessex and have this innovative project shortlisted for an HSJ Patient Safety award. It demonstrates the value of supporting high functioning perinatal teams in delivering the best care in preterm optimisation,” says Holly Green, Programme Manager, Patient Safety.
This year’s awards ceremony will take place on 15 September 2025 at Manchester Central, as part of the Patient Safety Congress which brings together healthcare professionals from across the country.
