Climate change undermines the core foundations of good health, contributing to widespread human illness, including cardiovascular disease, asthma, and cancer.
However, climate action reduces the burden of disease - from air pollution, obesity, and poor diet - whilst directly addressing health inequalities experienced across the country.
The NHS aims to be the world’s first net zero national health service. It contributes 4% to England’s total carbon footprint, with an estimated 25% of these emissions attributed to medicines.
